Endocrinology
Animal endocrinology is a branch of veterinary medicine that studies the endocrine system of animals and diseases associated with it. The endocrine system is responsible for the production and secretion of hormones that regulate various physiological processes in the animal body, such as growth, development, reproduction, metabolism, behavior, and immune response.
Our endocrinologists diagnose and treat various diseases related to the endocrine system of animals. Such diseases include diabetes, hypothyroidism, hypertrophy of the adrenal glands, hypertrophy of the thyroid gland, and others. Treatment may include diet, drug therapy, and other methods.
Endocrinologists may also practice reproductive endocrinology, which studies the reproductive system of animals and the regulation of reproductive functions by hormones. They can provide advice on planning animal breeding, diagnosing pregnancy and treating various diseases related to the reproductive system of animals.
Examination of an animal by an endocrinologist usually begins with a detailed survey of the owner about the animal's condition. The doctor is interested in questions about your pet's behavior, appetite, water consumption, and symptoms that may indicate problems with the endocrine system, such as polydipsia (excessive thirst) and polyuria (excessive urinary function), weight loss, unusual appearance, and others. After the survey the doctor conducts a physical examination of the animal, assesses its general condition and conducts special tests to determine the level of hormones in the animal's blood, such as a glucose test, a thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) test, an insulin test, and others.
Depending on the results of the tests and the physical condition of the animal, an endocrinologist may offer various treatment methods, including diet, medication and surgery. It is important to remember that a preliminary visit to the doctor can help detect the disease in the early stages and ensure successful treatment.
